My favorite revision strategy is peer review. It is a simple process but i find it to be the most effective way to write a better essay. i find it the best because it allows for someone to read your work that might not have the same perspective as you on the topic. this allows us as the writer to take into consideration a different way of thinking and a different viewpoint on the topic. this allows for us to expand our analysis of the quotes that we use in our essays. we get more in depth with the quotes and how they relate to the topic and why we chose them. peer review works as the best revision strategy because you do not need to have a fully written essay for it to work. you can use an outline or a partially completed essay, whatever you have done a peer review will benefit you. i find peer review to be the most helpful and beneficial revision strategy because it gives me a new perspective on the topic, allows me to work on areas that i did not think needed improvement, and it is the most helpful in writing a well written essay.

Overall, I had a good peer review experience. both Nick and Kadie left comments on my paper that i think will help me in adding to my paper and making it more sophisticated and an overall better paper that can reach more people. My goal going into a peer review of my own paper is to be as hard of a critic as possible, while looking at it with a different viewpoint.  this is because through past peer reviews i have found that it is the negative comments that I find more helpful than comments saying what i did right. i plan to do this by learning about other points of view that i could look at the paper with. i also plan to try and find something wrong with everything that i wrote because i believe that it is the best way of improving my writing. my biggest challenge will be looking at my paper with a new perspective, this will be a difficult challenge because i wrote the paper with my mindset on the topic and having to adopt a new one just to critique my writing will be extremely difficult. if i am unable to overcome this obstacle i will ask someone else to read through my essay, this is because the topic at hand means different things to different people so someone else could have a completely different point of view so their input will help me improve my essay the most.

Background information influenced my opinion on the essay because I used to believe that the Effective Altruists believed in actually doing good deeds, while now I believe they primarily believe in giving donations.

Two things that I noticed in Southan’s text are breaks are selfish, and even if you enjoy something you don’t have to pursue it. In Southan’s text the reader notices a theme of Southan informing the reader that taking a break is selfish. He believes this is true because there are many starving children in the world, and one should not take a break until all the good one can accomplish is complete. In a sense I agree with Southan. I believe that if someone can achieve something worthwhile and beneficial to others that they should feel a sense of guilt, and not be able to enjoy a leisure activity, if they choose to neglect their opportunity to benefit others. One should only be able to have time to oneself when all the good, and all the work they need to complete is accomplished. Another opinon Southan expresses in the text is that, “… the thing you most enjoy isn’t the most moral thing to do” (Southan). Here Southan expresses that your dreams don’t always align with what is right, or considered beneficial to other people. For example, one might want to pursue acting, but this does not necessarily benefit other people in a sense that they can receive food, nor shelter.  The actor or actress can provide money to help support others, but at the end of the day they are not actively trying to help others. Southan would argue that this career path is not morally justified.
